The Marketday Cart was an idea that came to us one Sunday morning at a farmer's market. Why were we struggling with a single deep bag, jostling all the things? Could we make something that was better?

Our little voice inside said yes.

Sketches, chats and prototypes

So, we started to mull over what was needed to shop more easily at markets and keep supporting our farmers.

Today’s design is the result of conversations, people watching and internet searches to see what was being used here and around the world.

We looked at the problems people were having, and we asked them what would make things better. We bought a range of different versions and tried them out.

We created one in our back shed and called her Berta.

Everyone carries stuff

In cities around the world, people walk from A to B with their stuff. They buy food & groceries and cart it home; they walk to parks for picnics – with food and other stuff.

They walk around their office buildings and places of work – moving stuff.

Stuff goes up stairs, downstairs, over roads, across fields, on escalators and on ferries. Stuff sits next to us in a café, follows us into classrooms and needs a way to get from the car to the kitchen bench.

Today we've got something that will change the way you carry stuff in your everyday life.

Marketday brings you into a space where things just work.

More than just a great bag - but a way to stay connected.

Working in community services for almost 20 years I saw first-hand how loneliness and social isolation, had affected people’s lives in profoundly negative ways.

Going weekly to the farmers market with my mum and daughter we realised something about the place made it a simple and effective remedy to our modern day malaise.

It was a place that everyone could belong, people were remembered and barriers faded away.

As the cart's practical design evolved, so did the thinking about community, neighbourliness, and ultimately how a simple tool could help a person stay connected to things , people and places that sustain us.

Today, Marketday represents getting out, connecting with community and nature.

It's about being immersed in the glorious details of where you live,

saying hello to people, patting random dogs.

It's feeling sunshine on your face, the wind on your back, rain on your coat,

and returning home richer for the experience.
