From Prototype to Production: Bringing The Marketday Cart to Life

It All Starts with an Idea
What does it take to go from a Sunday morning idea over coffee to a product that’s mass manufactured and shipped around the world? For us, it began with sketches, conversations, and a handmade prototype affectionately called Bertha. Those early experiments were the seeds of something bigger — a cart designed to be stylish, functional, and sustainable.
From Scribbles to Digital Foundations
After countless chats with friends, strangers, and collaborators, we moved from paper sketches to professional digital drawings. This stage was crucial: turning imagination into precise plans that could withstand the rigors of manufacturing.
Working with Neil Davidson and Rohan McEvoy at Clandestine Design Group was transformative. Their expertise guided us through materials, mechanics, and design integrity — ensuring every detail aligned with our vision of independence, durability, and circularity.
Mass Manufacturing in Motion
Fast forward to today: our digital designs are being brought to life in China. Steel tools have been created to mould every component of The Cart. In mass manufacturing, consistency is everything — each piece must be identical, reliable, and ready to slot seamlessly into the final product, thousands of times over.
Production is underway. Packaging is being printed, swing tags designed, and systems established to ship The Cart to us. Emails fly back and forth with our team overseas as we fine‑tune every detail.
Preparing for Launch
For our early bird customers who ordered before the end of October, your carts are just weeks away. Behind the scenes, we’re preparing for the arrival of a 40‑foot container, setting up appearances at farmers markets, and talking with retail homewares stores about stocking The Cart.
We want you to see her in action — to experience the sustainable materials, the clever design, and the way this cart can transform everyday errands into moments of joy and connection.
Five Years in the Making
It’s been five years since that first spark of inspiration, and we’re keener than ever to bring this award‑winning, innovative, and functional cart to market. The journey has been long, but every step has been worth it.
Thanks for being here in the trenches with us.
